City trip - Glasgow

Glasgow ist mit der ScotRail von Edinburgh Waverley (so was wie ein Hbf) nur eine Stunde entfernt. Die Züge sind nicht überfüllt und es gibt sogar WiFi (naja, bei uns hat das nicht zwischen den Städten funktioniert, aber seien wir mal optimistisch und nehmen an, es gab an diesem Tag eine Störung).

Glasgow ist mit etwa 600.000 Einwohnern die größte Stadt Schottlands und nach London und Birmingham die drittgrößte Stadt des Vereinigten Königreichs.In den 1990er Jahren hat sich Glasgow kontinuierlich von seinem Niedergang erholt. Die Stadt hat in den vergangenen 15 bis 20 Jahren große Summen in die Renovierung und Restaurierung einer Vielzahl von Gebäuden investiert. Durch diesen Aufwand ist die Lebensqualität in der Stadt spürbar gestiegen. 1990 wurde (statt London oder Edinburgh) überraschenderweise Glasgow 6. Europäische Kulturhauptstadt und erhielt 1999 den Architektur- und Designpreis. 2003 wurde Glasgow Europäische Sporthauptstadt.

Ich habe diese Stadt als sehr vielfältig empfunden. Es gab Teile der Stadt die sehr historisch und dadurch sehr interessant wirkten, aber es gab auch welche, die mehr Modern sind. Viel Spaß mit meinen Impressionen.

Welchen Eindruck macht auf euch Glasgow von den Bildern her?

Glasgow jest za pośrednictwem ScotRail z dworca Edinburg Waverley (coś, jak dworzec główny) oddalony jedynie godzinę jazdy. Pociągi są wygodne, niezbyt zapełnione i jest nawet WiFi (w naszym przypadku działało tylko w pobliżu miast, ale bądźmy optymistyczni i załóżmy, że tamtego dnia akurat coś się zepsuło).

Glasgow z 600.000 mieszkańców jest największym miastem Szkocji i zaraz po Londyniu i Birmingham trzecim największym miastem Zjednoczonego Królestwa. W latach 90tych Glasgow zaczęło się podnosić ze swojego upadku. Miasto w ciągu ostatnich 15 - 20 lat zainwestowało niebotyczną sumę pieniędzy na renowację sporej ilości budynków. Dzięki temu wysiłkowi jakość życia w mieście wzrosła w znaczny sposób. W 1990 roku (zamiast Londynu, czy Edynburga) Glasgow zostało szóstą europejską stolicą kultury i otrzymało nagrodę w dziedzinie architektury i designu.

Odebrałam miasto, jako bardzo zróżnicowane. To miejsce, gdzie historyczne budownictwo spotyka się z tym nowoczesnym, co daje ciekawy efekt. W jednym momencie mamy wrażenie znalezienia się w zupełnie innym świecie, by za chwilę znów być we współczesności.

Jestem ciekawa, jakie jest wasze wrażenie na temat tego miasta po obejrzeniu zdjęć?

By ScotRail it is only one hour journey from Edinburgh Waverley to Glasgow. The trains are very comfortable, not overfilled and there is even WiFi (well in our case it worked only when the train was in the big cities, but lets be optimistic and think, that day something went wrong).

Glasgow with its about 600,000 inhabitants is the largest city in Scotland, and the third largest city in the United Kingdom after London and Birmingham. In the 1990s, Glasgow continued to recover from its decline. The city has invested large sums in the renovation and restoration of a variety of buildings over the past 15 to 20 years. Through this effort the quality of life in the city has increased noticeably. In 1990 (instead of London or Edinburgh) was surprisingly Glasgow 6. European Capital of Culture and won in 1999 the architecture and design prize. In 2003, Glasgow became the European sports capital.

I have seen Glasgow as a very different city. This is a place where historical construction meets this modern, which gives an interesting effect. At one point we have the impression of finding ourselves in a completely different world, and in a moment we will be back in the present.

City trip - Edinburgh

Meine nächste Reise steht schon fast von der Tür und da ist mir eingefallen, dass ich euch Bilder von der Reise nach Schottland nicht gezeigt habe.

Schottland. Lange dachte ich, das wäre ein Land, dass ganz unten auf meiner Liste ist. Ich war in England und in Dublin, was kann schon Schottland bieten. Und wie sehr ich mich dabei geirrt habe. Nachdem ich die erste Staffel von Outlander fast verschluckt habe, hat sich meine Sicht ganz verändert. Ich dachte Irland sei das romantische Land, mit den wunderschönen Landschaften und alten Schlössern. Ist es ja auch, aber Schottland mit den Highlands ist ein ganz anderes Kaliber.

Aber fangen wir mal mit der Hauptstadt an - Edinburgh. Ich habe eigentlich nicht viel von der Stadt erwartet, doch als ich am ersten Tag meiner Reise aus dem Bus trat und in das Herz der Altstadt ging (wo mein Hotel war) fiel mir meine Kinnlade einfach auf den Boden. Anders kann ich es einfach nicht ausdrücken. Märchenhaft? Nein - das ist ein viel zu schwaches Wort. Wollte man einen Phantasie Film drehen, in einer parallelen Welt, die ähnlich wie im Mittelalter aussah nur viel märchenhafter - würde man Edinburgh wählen. Eins der Gebäude hat ja die Autorin zum Harry Potter inspiriert.

Ich gucke mir meine Bilder immer und immer wieder an und denke mir, dass ich es nicht geschafft habe den Flair der Stadt festzuhalten. Ich denke ich war einfach zu beschäftigt jede Minute ein "Ach" oder "Och" von mir zu geben. Edinburgh befindet sich in vielen Ebenen. Die eigentliche, alte Stadt ist unterirdisch, die neue wurde darauf gebaut. Es gibt viele kleine Gassen mit Treppen, die zwischen diesen Ebenen führen. Das alles wirkt so rätselhaft und irgendwie mysteriös. Obwohl man jeden Tag den selben Weg geht, entdeckt man immer, was neues. Viele Details mit liebe eingerichtet, versteckte Innenhöfe oder atemberaubende Gebäude. Ach! Das kann man gar nicht beschreiben. Ich kann mir das nicht vorstellen, dass jemand in Edinburgh wäre und nicht begeistert nach Hause käme.


Wusstet ihr eigentlich, dass Schottlands offizielles Wappentier das Einhorn ist? :)

Moja kolejna podróż już tuż tuż, a ja sobie uświadomiłam, że nie pokazałam wam zdjęć z ostatniej!

Szkocja. Długo uważałam, że to mało ciekawy kraj i dlatego znajdował się na samym dole listy miejsc do zwiedzenia. Myślałam, że skoro widziałam Anglię i Irlandię, to po co jeszcze Szkocję? Szczególnie, że to Irlandia jest przecież tym romantycznym krajem z pięknymi widokami, klifami i starymi baśniowymi zamkami. Nic bardziej mylnego. Po obejrzeniu pierwszego sezonu Outlandera (gorąco każdemu polecam, jest piękny, niebanalny, nostalgiczny... no świetny po prostu) zaczęłam zupełnie inaczej patrzeć na ten kraj. Tak, że zabukowałam lot. I wiecie co? Irlandia, Irlandią. Ale Szkocja, ze swoimi Higlandsami to jednak trochę innym kaliber.

Ale zacznijmy od jej stolicy - Edynburga. W zasadzie wiele nie oczekiwałam od tego miasta, raczej interesowały mnie tereny Szkocji, sama stolica mniej. Ale gdy wysiadłam z autobusu i im bardziej wchodziłam ciągnąć za sobą ciężką walizkę w centrum starego miasta (gdzie miałam hotel), coraz bardziej odejmowało mi mowę. Słuchajcie, to miasto jest po prostu niesamowite. Chciałabym powiedzieć, że bajkowe, ale to za słabe słowo. Gdyby ktoś chciał kręcić film fantasy, który działby się w jakimś równoległym świecie, w bardziej baśniowym średniowieczu - Edynburg byłby idealny. W ogóle to miasto jest zbudowane na podziemnym mieście. To znaczy, że kiedyś Edunburg leżał niżej, ale że brakowało miejsca to miasto zamiast rozwijać się w szerz rozwijało się w górę. I tak kamienice mają po kilka pięter w górę i w dół... Miasto leży na różnych poziomach, tak, że co chwila można napotkać wąskie korytarzyki z tajemniczymi schodkami, które pozwolą nam się szybciej dostać z jednego poziomu na drugi, gdy nie chcemy korzystać dłuższych podejść. Nie potrafię dobrać słów by opisać choćby w połowie ten niesamowity klimat tam panujący. Zresztą miasto zainspirowało autorkę Harry'ego Pottera do napisania jej najsłynniejszego dzieła :) Co chwila oglądam zdjęcia, które tu wstawiłam i dochodzę do wniosku, że i tak mi się nie udało uchwycić tajemniczego klimatu tego miasta. Jedno tylko mogę na koniec jeszcze powiedzieć, że nie wierzę, że ktoś wróciłby z wycieczki do Edynburga nie będąc zachwyconyn :)


A tak w ogóle, to wiedzieliście, że w herbie Szkocji występuje jednorożec? :)

Scotland. For a long time I was thinking that this country isn't worth travelling to. I saw England, the famous romantic Ireland, so what could I see in Scotland, what I haven't already seen? How wrong I was! After watching the first season of Outlander I've become very curious about this country. So I booked a flight.

When I arrived in Edinburgh and went with my suitcase in the middle of the old town, where my hotel was, I just couldn't believe my eyes. If someone wanted to make a fantasy film in a parallel fairy medieval world, Edinburgh would be the perfect place. I just can't find the right words to express the flair of this city. I think everyone should see it. With a lots of different levels it is built on it looks mysterious and there is no day, where you don't discover something new. I am looking over and over my photos and think I still couldn't catch the right character of that place. But I don't think that there would be anyone leaving Edinburgh disappointed.
